Vide Dressing "The Apples of My Eyes"

I met Ángela what seems like an eternity ago, when I was knocking down every door looking for stock for the shop. At the time, not a lot of people even bothered to respond to my messages but Ángela did. She was kind and lovely and at the time, these sort of interactions were keeping me hopeful and moving the project forward. So first off I want to say how grateful I am to her, as she probably doesn't know that our initial exchange meant so much to me. I'd like to add that Ángela has amazing taste, if I'd had girls, I would've looked to her Instagram for styling ideas. Below is a short interview we did, she is beautiful inside and out. I hope you enjoy her words and her collection as much as I do. (english interview after the jump!)

¿Como te llamas, y tus hijas? ¿Cuantos años tienen?

Yo soy Ángela, y mis hijas son Inés, de casi tres años, e Isabel, de uno.

¿Donde vivís y que es lo que te gusta más de ahí?

Vivimos en Asturias y sin duda lo que más me gusta de allí es la cercanía con la naturaleza, hemos tenido la oportunidad de comprar una casa en el campo y con suerte pronto podremos mudarnos y disfrutar al 100% de ella.

¿Cuáles son tus marcas de moda infantil favoritas?

¡Van cambiando! Últimamente encuentro que Búho Bcn y Número 74 responden muy bien a lo que busco en practicidad y estilo. Aún así yo vivo enamorada de las pequeñas marcas canadienses que me descubrieron el mundo de la moda ética, como Les Petites Natures, Petits Vilains y Tortoise and the Hare Clothing ¡aunque no tengo casi nada suyo! Intento comprar local para reducir la huella de carbono y... ¡abaratar portes!

¿Puedes compartir tu mayor consejo de moda para vestir a las niñas?

¡Colores neutros y prendas de una pieza! Así todo combina con todo y no hay que ir buscando ropa que en realidad no necesitas sólo para combinar lo que tienes. Lo de que sean de una pieza, como vestidos, petos y ranitas, facilita mucho la elección de la ropa cada día, que con los más mayores que ya van teniendo su propia opinión, es un gran paso.

¿Que es lo que te gusta más de ser mamá de hijas?

Por la parte frívola me hacía mucha ilusión la idea de tener niñas, y cuando supe que Inés sería niña me encantó pensar en toda la ropita que podría ponerle, pero luego me descubrí a mí misma eligiendo ropa bastante neutra, y que hubiera comprado igualmente para un niño.

Por otro lado, me siento afortunada de ser mujer en la época y país en que nos ha tocado vivir, pero no puedo esperar a ver cómo es el mundo en el que crecerán ellas como mujeres y cómo se enfrentarán a ello, creo que son también muy afortunadas y espero que puedan apreciar que así es.

El reciclaje de ropa de hermana mayor a hermana pequeño ¿qué tal lo habéis logrado?

¡Genial! Aunque no son exactamente de la misma época y alguna vez tengo que comprar algo para Isabel, siempre suele llevar ropa de su hermana mayor, y es una satisfacción enorme ver que nos sigue encantando, además es una muestra de que la inversión en moda sostenible vale la pena también en un sentido práctico: todo está como nuevo. Le contamos a Inés que ella llevaba lo mismo cuando era más pequeñita y le hace mucha ilusión, así que también es una oportunidad para que valoren la durabilidad de las cosas y lo bonito que es compartir.

¿Por qué has querido hacer un vide dressing? Háblanos un poco de las piezas en tu colección

Como sabes ¡al principio no estaba muy segura! Puede que tenga más hijos y que me preocupaba la posibilidad de que necesitase la ropa en el futuro. Sin embargo luego pensé que nadie me aseguraba que así fuera, y que incluso en ese caso, tal vez no coincidiese la temporada en que naciesen, así que mucha de la ropa tendría más posibilidades de tener una segunda oportunidad a través de Copito. Además es un proyecto precioso y me sentía muy afortunada de poder formar parte de él, por eso me decidí.

Mucha de la ropa de la colección es de recién nacido, es la época en la que mis hijas menos han coincidido así que está muy poco usada, y tratada con muchísimo cariño, pues forma parte de nuestros recuerdos más dulces. Me emociona muchísimo pensar que ahora pueda pasar a formar parte de los recuerdos de otra familia, pues son cositas que elegimos con tanto mimo que sería una pena que su historia acabase aquí.

Otras cosas son de tallas más grandes, son las que vi que Isabel no podría heredar de su hermana e igualmente me apenó muchísimo pensar que ya ningún niño las fuese a utilizar, son prendas tan concienzudamente elegidas y cuidadas que estoy segura que harán una gran función en el armario de quien las elija.

What is your name? How old are your daughters and what are their names?

I am Ángela and my daughters are Inés who is almost three, and Isabel who is one.

Where do you live and what do you love most about living there?

We live in Asturias and without a doubt what I love the most about living there is our proximity to nature. We've managed to buy a house in the countryside and with a bit of luck we'll be able to move soon and enjoy our new lives there.

What are your favorite children's brands?

They keep changing! Lately I find that Búho Bcn and Número 74 are super practical and meet my aesthetic. That said I am a sucker for the small canadian brands which opened up the world of ethically made clothes, like Les Petites Natures, Petits Vilains, and Tortoise and the Hare Clothing... though I barely have any of their clothes! I try to buy local to reduce our carbon footprint and... lower shipping costs!

Can you share your best fashion tips for dressing girls?

Neutral colors and one-pieces! That way it all matches and you don't have to buy new pieces just to complete an outfit. Buying one-piece items like dresses, rompers and overalls makes picking outfits on a day to day basis so much easier, especially as your kids get older and pickier about clothes.

What do you enjoy most about being a mother to girls?

I was very excited to have girls for frivolous reasons, and when I found out Inés would be a girl I loved thinking about all of the clothes I could dress her in. I soon found my aesthetic and bought a lot of neutral garments I could've dressed a boy in anyway!

On the other hand I feel very fortunate to be a woman in the time and place we're in now... and I cant wait to see the world they'll get to grow up in and how they will face it. I think they too are very fortunate and I hope they'll appreciate the changes in our society.

How has recycling clothes within your own family worked out?

Great! They weren't born at the exact same time of year so here and there I've had to buy something for Isabel, but she's always wearing something that belonged to her older sister which brings us so much satisfaction. It's also a testament to how well sustainable brands make their clothes and goes to show it's worth the investment: everything is good as new. Inés loves to hear that she used to wear the same clothes when she was little, it's a perfect opportunity to teach them to look after their things and to share!

Why did you choose to do a vide dressing? Tell us a bit about your collection.

As you know, I wasn't too sure about doing it at first. We might end up having more kids and I was worried at the possibility that I might need these clothes in the future. After some thought, I realized the future was uncertain and I was happy at the thought of guaranteeing these clothes another life through Copito. It's such a beautiful project and I felt really fortunate to be able to participate in it.

A lot of the clothes in the collection are newborn size, it's the stuff my girls least wore and was looked after with a lot of love... they also are part of our sweetest memories with the girls. I love the idea that they can go on to become part of other families' memories, they're things we chose with so much excitement, it would be a shame for their journey to end here.

A few items are larger, these are the pieces I knew Isabel wouldn't be able to wear based on the time of year. I also didn't want these items not to get another life! They're pieces which can be so useful to another kid.
